Challenge of SATAN

Internet challenges are often pointless. Some have served good causes. Some can be dangerous. Others, there may be untold consequences. I have participated in an internet challenge, the ice bucket challenge, and used it to donate to a local ministry involved in helping save people from addiction thru the power of Christ. Other internet challenges, like the cinnamon, ghost pepper, and such, can be dangerous, and there is even one reported incident of a firefighter in Louisville, KY dying from injuries received during an ice bucket challenge, the ladder truck he was on was too near power lines and was electrocuted. Most challenges, if followed with common sense, are relatively harmless, though usually just down right goofy.

One new challenge has me greatly concerned. The newest craze going around is the ‘Charlie Charlie’ challenge. In essence, the challenge includes placing two pencils in the form of a cross, then writing, usually, yes and no, in the squares created. Then the participants will chant, “Charlie Charlie are you here?” This will then be followed by questions that the participant wants answers to. This ‘Charlie Charlie’ is supposed to be an ancient Mexican ghost (Charlie seems strange), who then is summoned to answer questions of life, love and fortune.

This is purely gullible gibber-gabber at the least, but more insidious, demonic pandering and experimentation at the most. This is a form of Ouija board made poplar as parlor and sleepover games. This is also, what scripture warns against, Leviticus 19:31 (KJV) “Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God.” ‘Familiar spirits’ here can be translated, as in some other translations, as a medium, that is, someone that dabbles in spiritual darkness, demons and ghosts. This is dangerous, at a spiritual level, which must be warned about. Paul spoke of demonic forces around us, Ephesians 6:12 (KJV) “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”

Is every person that participates in this silliness going to end up demon possessed, no, I doubt very seriously. But, the question should be, do you want to invite the spiritual powers that are truly there to dabble in your life, I should say, I hope not. These experimentations can lead to dabbling in mysticism, occult practices, and worse. We should raise the red flag, and warn those that we know are thinking of doing the challenge. Also, the Body of Christ needs to pour their prayers on our young and susceptible to these type of challenges. In the book of Acts is an interesting story, Acts 19:13-17 (KJV) “ Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth. 14 And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so. 15 And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye? 16 And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. 17 And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.”

Did you notice the last verse in the text above? Jesus’ name was magnified at the failure of those dabbling in demonic dealings. Let’s pray that this ‘Charlie Charlie’ Challenges ends in the heap of failed attempts and Christ is magnified in victory over the powers of darkness.

GOD BLESS
