WHY?

Recently a three year old girl was killed as a grate, which served as a security gate, fell on her. The piece was so heavy that it took approximately 20-30 men to get it off her lifeless body. It began to make me think, why. Why God chooses to intervene and why he would choose to not?
Our youth have been studying the story of Moses. It is interesting to read of God’s dealing with Pharaoh and his heart. It is clear from the text that there was a point when Pharaoh could have chosen to allow the Children of Israel to go, but he hardened his heart. Later God hardened it, as a consequence of Pharaoh’s choice. That seems to be the gist, CONSEQUENCES.
Our life is filled with reaping what we sow, consequences for our actions. But doesn’t God intervene sometimes? Yes, He does. In His infinite wisdom and because of grace, God often (and more often than we realize) intervenes in our lives. But, the consequences of life are there, just the same.
The question is WHY? Why would God save one and not another. And I’m not talking salvation, but as in, preventing one tragedy while allowing another to suffer the consequences. I don’t know the answer, Oh don’t get me wrong, I know God is sovereign and has the right to choose to do as He pleases. That doesn’t keep us from asking why?
I thought about the mother of the three year old, tragically killed. What do you say, “Oh you know God in His infinite wisdom chose not to save your little one, just accept it!” I think NOT! How about, “I have no answer for why, but God is still in control.” I’m not so sure that helps either.
I think about my dad, a Vietnam veteran. Over 58,000 soldiers were killed in Vietnam, my dad was not one. Why? Not because he was a saint, which he wasn’t. Was it because one day he would preach, maybe? Is it because God wanted him to live till…well whenever? By the way, my dad received a Purple Heart, given only to soldiers who are wounded. He lived. Why? Thank God he did.
