WEEDS OR FLOWERS?

Into our lives come many people. We have varieties; they are there for short or sometimes long seasons. It is like annuals, perennials or even bi-annuals. I would say that everyone in your (and mine) life are either a flower or a weed. They grow into our lives, and are there for a short time or the long haul.
Sometimes weeds look like flowers. They will grow and even bloom with flower like appearance. Sometimes they are even pretty or at least at first. You know weeds often take over and choke the good things in a garden. Weeds are invasive and overtake and consume what is beneficial in your garden.
Flowers, on the other hand are beautiful. They give you joy, pleasure and pleasant feelings. Flowers are gathered to make bouquets and placed in vases to be displayed. They are given as expressions of love and even apologies for wrongdoings. We have weeds and flowers in our lives.
People, the weeds and flowers, are growing in your life right now. Some of the weeds in your life have choked out the good and productive parts of your lives. It is safe to say, that they first appeared as flowers but they eventually became invasive and counterproductive.
The flowers in your life are there in different seasons. Some are there for one season; glorious, colorful and quickly gone. Some for a few and come back in bloom just as you need the lift of beauty in your life. Yet there are also the perennials; there season after season. They come back season after season. They show up, predictably, as you expect them to. These are the steady, lifetime and unsurprisingly parts of your garden of life.
Accept that the weeds in your life, those people that are unproductive to you, are going to come. You treat for them, plan for them and even dig them out. But, they still will come back. So just accept that they will be there, usually when you need them less. Also, realize the flowers, your friends of beautiful quality and helpfulness, will bloom and bring joy to you. They are there when you need them. Choose their beauty over the ugliness of weeds.
Finally, choose to be a flower in someone else’s life. Try to resist the temptation to brag on your bloom. Let those who have you in their garden choose you and brag on your bouquet. I remember a statement made by someone, when asked, what the difference between weeds and flowers were. Their answer will do you well to remember; ‘Weeds are the stuff you didn’t want or didn’t plant but the flowers are’!
