Storytelling is as ancient as man. Most ancient storytelling was about the adventures and situations that the storyteller or those they witnessed had done. Storytelling is older than writing. It was used to convey; history, entertainment, religious ideas and the moral values of the culture. Culturally, storytelling is as common among cultures as family and eating.

Maybe the oldest, most common, story is the flood accounts. In spite of the recent Noah movie, starring Hollywood veteran Russell Crowe, attempt to CHANGE the account, it has common elements. In whatever culture you find the flood account, be it China, India or even American Indian, there is a man and his family, an angry Creator and a flood (and a lot of animals being saved). Of course as that story was transferred from place to place and culture to culture it got some corruption (not surprising for a 5000 year old story). Yet the proof of a common story is proof that it is common to man’s collective conscious.

So I bring all this up to give my reason and validate my purpose for writing a Christian Fiction book. I think it is funny we say ‘Christian Fiction’ which seems to be an oxymoron, but in reality we could call it ‘Christian Parable’ writing. Jesus used parable in his teachings. His use of parables was to take very common human elements to express heavenly/spiritual elements. And simply putting it, as I can; good ‘nuff for Him, good ‘nuff for me.Jesus used familiar characters in his parables; farmers, a wife, a father, etc.

I am trying to do the same thing with my upcoming book, A Journey To Grace. It is a story, set in modern times, about a man, as he deals with the loss of his mother, his father and his faith. John Newsome, my main character, is based on many people, as well as the characters he meets.Hopefully, my story, that is; my book, is a story that is common to many different people. As John travels back to his hometown of Grace, he is on a journey to God’s Grace.

I think many people will find their selves on the same journey, at some point along the way. Great stories of fiction have touched people for centuries. I am praying mine will do the same. Will you pray for/with me?

GOD BLESS

Tony
