At the request of one of my readers we will do another Top Ten: This BLOG will be the top ten Religious (Christian/Biblical) movies of all time:

10)Flywheel –The Kendrick brothers (Alex & Stephen) done this one in 2003 on a very low budget (around $20,000). Even though the technical quality is very low, it is a great story, and well written.

9) Son of God- This movie, produced by some Hollywood heavyweights, Roma Downey and Mark Burnett, was released in 2014. It is basically the story of Jesus done at a very high quality and with a big budget.

8) Facing the Giants- In 2006 the Kendrick brothers released this movie. It was done on a budget of $10,000 and was done with unexpected quality. Alex Kendrick’s acting performance in this may be his best.

7) Courageous- The Kendrick brothers return to the movie screen was very well done, with a great story and very good acting. The $2,000,000 budget was well used, when you consider that many of their previous movies were done on budgets of much less.

6) Fireproof- This is by far the best Kendrick Brothers movie. They did work with their biggest budget to date ($500,000). This 2008 release starred Kirk Cameron, who did a very good job. The message contained within the story is timeless and the telling of it is dramatic.

5) King of Kings- This 1961 production is 168 minutes long, and reflects the grandeur of its subject. A BIG budget (over 5 million dollars) was well used and well produced. This was the end of an era of big budget Hollywood Biblical productions.

4) Ben Hur- This big budget 1959 production ($15 million) is 212 minutes and is by far the most epic of the non-Biblical Epics. It does include the acting talents of Charlton Heston , and he carries the movie on his shoulders. The chariot race may still be the most dramatic scene in any of this lists movies.

3) God’s Not Dead- This recent (2014) released movie hits every cylinder; acting, production quality and story. The story follows a college student’s challenge to his professor’s notion that ’God is dead’. It is based on numerous legal cases against faith-based organizations on college campuses. By far this is the best story-based religious movie.

2) The Ten Commandments- This is the ultimate ‘old’ Hollywood Biblical-Epics done in 1956. This movie had Charlton Heston as Moses, Yul Brynner as Rameses and many other very famous and high quality actors for the day. Cecil B. Demille directed (as he did Ben Hur also) this big budget, big subject and big production.

AND FINALLY…1) The Passion of Christ-This 2004 production of the story of Jesus was directed by veteran Hollywood actor, Mel Gibson. Jim Caviezel’s portrayal of Christ is by far the most dramatic. This is also the most realistic depiction of the suffering and crucifixion of Christ. Gibson took great pains to make this movie as true to the scriptures and historical accounts as possible. With over $30 million to work with it was used to produce the greatest account of Jesus’ last days. Gibson even did the film in Aramaic, Hebrew and Latin to stay true to the times. May be one of the best evangelistic tools put on film.

Well there you go…What do you Think?

GOD BLESS

Tony
